Maurice Ford

Maurice Ford MSc., Q. Med., OCT., WFA., RP, has worn many hats throughout the course of his career, all of which have led to his current work as a mediator and a psychotherapist.

Maurice began his career as a correctional officer, where he quickly learned that dispute resolution achieves a more desirable outcome every time, and that a combative posture between parties makes it difficult to negotiate a solution. His background in criminal justice taught Maurice that when both parties take a firm stance, a calm and neutral approach may be most effective in dissolving tensions.

Following his work in criminal justice, Maurice began working with the Ministry of the Attorney General. He was tasked with making difficult treatment decisions about long-term care and life support, decisions that involved society’s most vulnerable populations. These experience taught Maurice the importance of all parties receiving a fair opportunity to have their voices heard and their concerns addressed.

Maurice subsequently taught high school in Ontario for many years until his retirement in 2017. Maurice gained experience explaining complex concepts in a simple and straightforward fashion. He resolved countless disputes in his teaching career, and developed the approach that he is respected for today.

Today, Maurice works both as a mediator and as a licensed psychotherapist. He founded AM Mediation in 2017, and has had the privilege of solving disputes across various fields. His experience has only furthered his insight into mental health and wellbeing, and he is able to understand the issues and concerns of all parties that enter into the mediation process. He continues to teach, both through the negotiator program at Osgoode Hall Law School, as well as teaching Osgoode students mediation skills in small claims court. He is also a licensed private investigator and is qualified to conduct a wide array of workplace investigations.

When not shuttling between breakout rooms, Maurice enjoys spending time with his family. His children are grown now, and have finally learned to appreciate his dulcet tones and calm demeanor.
